From the Artist:

I have been painting with pastels for the last 15 or so years and love the colors and the feeling of the pastel sticks in my hands. Pastels are almost pure pigment with a small amount of binder formed into a chalk-like stick. They are very permanent when under glass. I paint on a sanded paper that I have dry mounted to museum quality mat board. It is a very direct process that allows me to create many effects. I find most of my inspiration in the rural landscapes of Nebraska. I am mostly drawn to scenes that have strong light. In fact, painting the “light” seems to be what most of my latest work is about. Recently I have been exploring the use of stronger, more creative colors and I am loving the results. I usually take photographs of the scene, often with my iPhone, and sometimes do a quick sketch on site. I do think it is important to know the scene and most of the time I have spent a lot of time looking first. Most of what I paint is within half an hour of my home.
